Description  Built under licence by Curtiss on the 15th of December 1928 this beautiful and extremely rare metal-framed version of De Havilland's famous Moth is being offered for sale exclusively with Eagles Eleven. This aircraft spent most of its early years in America until 1986 when it was purchased by Hamish Moffatt who was an intrepid explorer and Bugatti racing car driver. The moth was the aircraft of choice by many famous aviators of the day, notably Amy Johnson, who completed her solo flight between London and Australia where she became the first female pilot to achieve such a feat.

This Gipsy Moth features a very special historic artefact, acquired by Hamish Moffatt is the actual compass from Amy Johnsons aircraft “Jason” currently situated within the Science Museum, London.

G-AADR has spent her years since 1986 on an idyllic rural farm strip in Hertfordshire, England, being lovingly cared for by the Moffatt family, Hamish Moffatt we have no doubt was attracted to the Moth purely on its merits of reliability and its remarkable history. During 1989 the Gipsy I engine was fully restored by Ed Clark in America, the engine has run just 146 hours since this restoration, previous to this the airframe was restored by Bert Brooks, also in America, which was carried out during 1979. The airframe has very low hours with just 1282.40, the aircraft also benefits from new tie rods which were fitted during 2017.

This aircraft is currently on the U.K. register as G-AADR and will be sold with a fresh permit to fly
