Originally owned by John G Peppard it was flown by Robert McMillan at Kansas City, Missouri for 24 years before purchase by Donald Maxfield in 1979. At this time the aircraft went through an extensive restoration to ‘as new’ condition with Lil Red Aero his aircraft engineering business in Kearney, Nebraska. He and his daughter Anna made regular short flights in the attractively red-painted Gull Wing right up to the time of his death in 2015, by which date it had logged just 911 hours flying.
Since arrival in the UK, early in 2016 this aircraft has been the subject of a nose to tail IRAN (inspect and repair as necessary) with all issues rectified including:
New tyres, wheels refurbished, complete overhaul of main gear and tailwheel, prop inspection – cleaned, inspected, new seals, o’rings etc, new altimeter, pitot test, new 5 place intercom, new fuel selector, fuel system checks, compression results as follows – 79, 79.5, 78, 78.5, 78, 80, 79.5, 78, 79.5.
